    PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Three non-profit groups that provide services for victims of domestic violence are among the recipients of more than $2.3 million in federal aid in Maine. The federal Office of Violence Against Women is providing the grants, which are designed to support rape crisis centers and victims of domestic violence and stalking. The grants are going to New Hope for Women in Rockland, Partners for Peace in Bangor and Caring Unlimited Corporation in Sanford. San Antonio police arrested Mathias Ometu, 33, last week on two counts of allegedly assaulting a peace officer in Bexar County after officers stopped him while he was jogging and took him into custody. (CBS4) — A Park County Sheriff’s Office deputy was seriously injured Thursday while responding to a call near Antero Reservoir after a crash that may have been deliberately caused by the person the deputy was en route to contact. A 46-year-old man driving a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe struck the deputy’s cruiser head-on. The 46-year-old was unrestrained and suffered serious injuries as well. The man and the deputy were flown to St. Anthony’s Hospital in separate medical helicopters. The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the incident. Stockton police say officers responded to the 1000 block of Rosemarie Lane just after noon to investigate a reported disturbance. At the scene, officers got in contact with a woman who was distressed. Both a SWAT team and crisis negotiators also soon responded.     A substantial portion of people who committed mass shootings last year used guns they possessed illegally, according to a report released Thursday by the Secret Service's National Threat Assessment Center.  The report analyzed 34 mass attacks that took place in the U.S. last year.
