    1. U.S. COVID-19 hospitalizations rose to an all-time high of 83,227 over the weekend, even as daily new infections retreated from Friday’s record of 195,542. Hospitalizations climbed to record levels on 12 consecutive days. The seven-day average of new cases continued to rise, hitting 169,217 on Saturday, The Wall Street Journal reported, based on its analysis of Johns Hopkins University data. Health experts continued to advise Americans against traveling for Thanksgiving, or attending holiday gatherings as the fall wave intensified, with new daily cases rising nearly 14 percent in a week. “Moving through airports or travel hubs, I think that will increase people’s risk,” Tom Inglesby, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, said on Fox News Sunday. “Even if they’re driving from point to point, unfortunately, we don’t know if we’re infected when we walk into a gathering.” [The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post] 2....
The Week Reporter Carl Bernstein names 21 GOP senators who ‘repeatedly expressed extreme contempt for Trump’ Political reporters in Washington, D.C., have been saying a lot of Republicans in Congress privately despise President Trump, but few have publicly criticized him — and likewise, few have publicly acknowledged his defeat to President-elect Joe Biden. (CNN)Some Americans could receive a coronavirus vaccine as early as the second week of December. But that's if everything goes to plan and Pfizer receives emergency use authorization for its vaccine candidate around December 10.How long before life returns to normal? Based on the level of protection that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines offered in trials, "70% or so of the population being immunized would allow for true herd immunity to take place," Moncef Slaoui, the head of the US government's vaccine efforts, told CNN on Sunday. He added that based on his plans, that figure could be achieved in May "or something like that." It comes as a new Gallup poll found that most Americans (58%) would be willing to get vaccinated if there was an FDA-approved vaccine available right now at no cost. The last poll in September found only 50% of Americans were up for the jab....

ON THIS DAY IN 1884, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published a story about Mark Twain’s appearance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, writing, “The noted humorist, his hair tinged with gray and a look of perfect innocence on his sharp New England features, came forward amid the plaudits of the audience, the young ladies in the front seats apparently losing all control of themselves and clapping their hands until their faces glowed. Twain has a peculiar way of looking sideways at his audience and at the same time gently lifting up his left hand by the agency of his right and scratching his well shaven chin meditatively. He commenced by assuring his audience that he had since he knew anything a horror of the interviewer. ‘The principal reason of that,’ he continued, ‘is that reporters have a peculiar way of getting at facts which a man does not want to...

Obscure Michigan board thrust into fracas over electoral results Illinois athletics department lobs “Thanks for bringing back B1G football” tweet at Nebraska after 41-23 thumping There have been some fun Twitter shots from official team accounts after wins this year, and the latest one comes from the Illinois Fighting Illini athletic department. On Saturday, the 1-3 Illinois football team was on the road against the 1-2 Nebraska Cornhuskers, a team many have commented on for their push to play despite the COVID-19 pandemic, first with threats to play outside the conference after the Big Ten initially canceled fall football, then with suggestions from their official radio account that Wisconsin was ducking them and citing a coronavirus outbreak as an excuse. Well, while Nebraska repeatedly insisted they were ready to play, any time, anywhere, that hasn’t been the case on the...
Twitter has placed warning labels on 23 posts and retweets from President Donald Trump this week, each calling his posts “disputed,” continuing its repeated pattern of censorship since election day. Since November 16, Twitter has labeled 23 tweets and retweets from President Trump as “disputed,” redirecting users to “Moments” pages, some of which use tweets from Democratic candidate Joe Biden and his Vice President pick Kamala Harris as proof of the Democrats’ alleged victory. Breitbart News has reported extensively the social media Masters of the Universe increasing their censorship leading up to the 2020 Presidential election. Twitter stated last week that it put labels on 300,000 user posts from October 27 to November 11 for violating rules related to election misinformation. The platform also implemented a retweet feature that required users to add their own comments before retweeting a post on the platform. The “disputed” tweets from President Trump include comments relating to...

By Michael Hurley, CBS Boston BOSTON (CBS) — He may be the greatest of all time, but even Tom Brady has a horrible game from time to time. But he’ll almost never do it two weeks in a row. The 43-year-old Brady kept up that tradition on Sunday, in a game where he was simply excellent for the Buccaneers in their 46-23 win over the Panthers in Carolina. After a humbling performance on national TV against the Saints last week, Brady completed 28 of his 39 passes (71.8 percent) for 341 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also rushed for a touchdown on a QB sneak. Brady spread the ball around to eight different receivers, and he looked to old friend/new friend Antonio Brown twice on the touchdown drive that essentially iced the game away in the fourth quarter. The first came on a third-and-2, when Brady delivered a...

California voters have rejected a ballot measure to require a doctor or highly trained nurse at each of California’s 600 dialysis clinics. With more than 9 million votes tallied Tuesday, Proposition 23 had just 37% of votes. It drew more than $110 million in spending. A president hospitalized with a potentially deadly illness. It happened before, right here in Denver. Dwight Eisenhower, the 34th president of the United States, was a frequent visitor to the Mile High City, the hometown of his wife, Mamie Geneva Doud, whom he married in 1916. Even after he was elected president in 1952, Eisenhower would come to Colorado to go fishing at the Byers Peak Ranch in Grand County, stay with his wife at the Brown Palace (which still has a suite dedicated to the president) or visit Lowry AFB — all spots that earned the title of "Western White House" and "Summer White House." But the place where he spent the most time in metro Denver?
