Sony issued an apology on Twitter for PlayStation 5 pre-orders turning into a disaster. The Japanese company announced pricing and release dates for the gaming system Wednesday and minutes after the event, nearly every major retailer was 'out of stock.' Retailers including Amazon, GameStop and Walmart jumped the gun with opening pre-orders a day early that started a buying frenzy in the gaming community.  Gamers around the world ran to their computers, smartphones and tablets to reserve a console, but many were met with broken links, page time outs and the dreaded 'out of stock' message. Sony shared in the tweet that it is set to release more consoles over the next few days and promises 'more PS5s will be...
A career in academia wasn’t supposed to be this demoralizing. Footage from a “Teacher of the Year” ceremony in Russia earlier this month is raising eyebrows for its highly suggestive processional involving an objectively phallic statuette. Russian news outlet ASTV later called the awards “awkward,” Daily Mail reported, while event producers admitted the trophy had a “strange” and “ambiguous” shape. The contest on September 7, in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on Sakhalin Island, just north of the Japanese archipelago, was sponsored by top international oil companies, including Russian state oil company Rosneft, Japan’s Sakhalin Oil Development Corp. (SODECO), India’s ONGC Videsh and ExxonMobil subsidiary Neftegas Limited. Now people are asking why the contestants — primarily women — were forced to proceed in...

Kathy Schneider worked as a Dallas County election clerk in 2018, but out of concern about the coronavirus, she’s choosing not to this year. “I am 64 and really not interested in exposing myself to coronavirus any more than I need to do,” Schneider said. Instead, she’s volunteering as a poll watcher for the Democratic party, which she can do outdoors and distanced in a parking lot. Texas is preparing for a general election for which election officials are expecting unprecedented turnout — and unprecedented demand for election workers. The general election will require local election officials to hire more election clerks because of an extended early voting period, new cleaning and disinfection protocols, and expectations that more people will...

(CNN)Holding an award show in the middle of a global pandemic is a tall order. As the nation struggles with being in a constant state of abnormal, the entire concept of celebrating entertainment could strike some as odd -- even tone deaf. Is business travel dead? Border closures and domestic quarantines have caused tens of millions of American to miss their vacations, and we are all supposed to be lamenting that trip to the beach or to Vietnam. Instead, after six months of being grounded, I miss boring trips: one- or two-night hops to mid-sized American cities and small towns for work. Domestic business trips aren’t supposed to be fun, and for the most part, they aren’t. The reward for waking up at 4 a.m. to take the train to the bus to LaGuardia is to board a little plane and be stuck next to a strange, tall man in economy class on a short flight with no food. The 2020 Emmys on ABC will be like no other in the show’s 71-year history on television. The opening monologue, delivered by the show’s host, is traditionally the show’s high point — with the exception of last year, when the Emmys went host-less … and hit an all-time viewership low. But as we’ve seen time and again, the monologue can either make or break the entire event. Sunday night’s host, Jimmy Kimmel, is expected to open the historic, virtually produced broadcast with a monologue. No one knows what to expect or how it will go over — especially with an audience being patched into the telecast and no live laughter for Kimmel to gauge how he’s doing. With that in...
Bill Gates has said he is 'optimistic the pandemic won't last indefinitely' and predicts the United States will be 'back to normal' by the end of 2021.  The billionaire, a longtime philanthropist on issues of global healthcare and poverty, told Fox News host Chris Wallace in an Interview airing Sunday: 'If a vaccine approval comes by early next year as I expect, then by next summer the U.S. will be starting to go back to normal and by the end of the year our activities can be fairly normal.' America on Sunday neared 200,000 deaths from coronavirus with the University of Washington predicting the number of fatalities will nearly double by January. The virus continues to spread and there is currently no...
United Nations (CNN)What if the world's most powerful people threw a gigantic international party and no one showed up? This week is the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) -- normally the Super Bowl of international diplomacy. But thanks to a global pandemic, make that "digital diplomacy" without star players in the corridors at UN headquarters in New York. Joe Biden is accused of hypocrisy after a 2016 op-ed emerged in which he slammed Republicans for holding up a Supreme Court appointment, stating that it is the 'constitutional duty' of a president to nominate if a vacancy becomes available.   He made the comments in a March 2016 op-ed with the New York Times, in which he added that he was 'surprised and saddened' to hear Republican senators say they would not longer accept a nomination because it was an election year.   His words resurfaced this week after he blasted President Donald Trump for moving to nominate a candidate to fill the vacancy left by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday.  Biden claimed that the nomination should wait...

Donald Trump may push Senate Republicans to try to jam a Supreme Court nominee through before the election, but I think it’s more likely that he’ll opt to run on the vacancy given that it’s an issue that could bring Republicans who don’t like him back into the fold. It would be better for him than running against the Democratic backlash that would follow a hasty confirmation before the election. And Senate Majority Mitch McConnell would also be hard-pressed to usher through a confirmation in that brief period, and he has vulnerable members...

(CBSDFW.COM) – As odd as it seems given the cooler weather of late, this is actually the last weekend of summer. The Fall Equinox falls on Tuesday this year. This is when the noon-day sun sits over the equator. After this point the sun noon angle will center over a longitude south of the equator. Of course, all this is the result of the Earth tilting on its axis. As it rotates around the sun the northern hemisphere is either tilting TOWARD the sun (summer) or AWAY from sun (winter). The equinoxes are the halfway points between the two. The end result is that the days get shorter and colder as we head toward winter. When compared with the longest...

Trea Turner pulled off a masterful play at shortstop against the Marlins. Don Mattingly wanted to kick-start Chisholm’s confidence against the Washington Nationals by helping him cause havoc on the basepaths, but nats shortstop Trea Turner had other ideas in mind for the rookie. One of Joe Biden's recent favorite campaign lines is to knock President Trump for not warning the public about the coronavirus pandemic earlier in his State of the Union speech this year. Trump, however, did address the coronavirus pandemic in his State of the Union speech in early January of this year. Israelis just want to fly away. The atmosphere was so grim as the nation entered a coronavirus lockdown on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, that there appeared to be no escape. One meme making the rounds showed desperate hands reaching out of the sea towards a far-off airplane flying high in a deep blue sky, accompanied only by the traditional greeting of “Shana Tova,” a good year. The greeting felt hollow as Israel entered into the year 5781 as the first country on earth to impose a second national lockdown. Even as Americans are experiencing something different in this election year, there remains strong support among voters for confident, knowledgeable presidents who exude clearheaded leadership as our nation’s president. By SYLVIA HUI, Associated Press LONDON (AP) — It’s the September fashion week season, and in any other year London would be abuzz with fashionistas zipping across town in Mercedes Benzes, hobnobbing with celebrities at glittering catwalk shows before sipping champagne at late-night parties. This is no typical year, though, and London Fashion Week is decidedly less glamorous. Actor John Leguizamo will be boycotting the Emmys this year for lack of ‘Latinx’ representation. Speaking with Yahoo! Entertainment, the “Critical Thinking” star said that he has “no reason” to watch the Emmys if he does not see people of his ethnicity on screen. He blamed the lack of representation on industry titans for not telling enough stories about Latino people. “I’m boycotting,” he said. “If you don’t have Latin people, there’s no reason for me to see it. What’s the point?” “It’s unbelievable that our stories aren’t being told and there’s one reason for that,” he continued. “Executives don’t see us, don’t get us — don’t care about us.” Leguizamo likened this to “cultural apartheid.” “I’m just dying to...

In fact, the smart Ray-Bans will not have an integrated display, the Verge reported — but may feature recording capacity or a voice-activated assistant. Facebook has confirmed that the product will operate by pairing with a phone. The tech firm has also previously indicated it is developing audio features...

New York Yankees Analysis: The state of the Yankees, the good, the bad, and the ugly By: William Parlee September 17, 2020 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Yankees are in a pretty good place right now for several reasons. One is that their pitching has improved, and the hitting has come alive. Another is that the Yankees are almost whole, with key players returning from the IL. Unfortunately, in a shortened season, everything is magnified.  There was no time to play poorly. Unfortunately for the Yankees, they couldn’t avoid a slow patch. With pitching faltering and hitting non-existent, the Yankees slid.  A number of injuries eclipsing last year’s unprecedented number of injuries hit the team...
