A Los Angeles judge denied Democrat Party donor Ed Buck’s request on Friday to be released from jail before his trial. “Buck’s attorneys argued that their client should be released from the downtown federal lockup due to the COVID-19 pandemic currently moving through jails and prisons,” according to Fox 11. The 66-year-old had offered to pay a $400,000 signature bond and be electronically monitored in confinement at his home. “However, U.S. Magistrate Judge Rozella A. Oliver found that the proposed bond conditions were insufficient to ensure Buck’s presence at trial, given the incentives to flee,” the article said. Oliver also determined he would pose a danger to the community if released from jail prior to his trial scheduled for January...
A judge denied Democratic donor Ed Buck's request to be released on Friday, claiming he posed a danger to the community.  U.S. Magistrate Judge Rozella A. Oliver said that the conditions presented by Buck's attorney were 'insufficient' to ensure that the embattled donor would show at trial, KCAL reports.  Oliver also said that Buck's legal team failed to show how the medical staff at the Metropolitan Detention Center were incapable of handling their client's medical needs, after the defense expressed concern with Buck getting COVID-19.  She added that he did not appear to have any medical conditions that seemed to put him at risk for catching the virus at 66 years of age.    U.S. Magistrate Judge Rozella A. Transworld has agreed to change its debt collection practices and will pay $600,000 restitution as...
(CBS4) – Weld County is asking for help identifying some individuals who are suspected of trespassing on two local dairy farms and stealing gasoline. Then, two days later, north of Greeley they tried again. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office.
Ed Buck, the Democratic party donor in whose house two men died of drug overdoses, is planning to ask to be released from jail and await trial from home. On Friday, at a bail reconsideration hearing, Buck's defense attorneys are set to argue that Buck, 66, is high-risk of contracting coronavirus if he remains locked up.      According to court papers obtained by City News Service, Buck says he is willing to pay a $400,000 signature bond as well as be electronically monitored and confined to his hime.  The attorneys also argue that Buck suffers from gum disease and needs specialized cardiac care that the criminal justice system is unable to provide. But federal prosecutors are against his release, saying Buck...
Two reporters from the conservative outlet The Daily Caller were arrested Wednesday night while reporting on the protests and unrest Louisville, Kentucky, over the police killing of Breonna Taylor. The reporters were not, from all appearances, doing anything other than their jobs. Geoffrey Ingersoll, the outlet’s editor-in-chief, initially expressed hope the reporters, Shelby Talcott and Jorge Ventura, would be released swiftly. But they remained confined overnight and were not released until about 16 hours and about 12 hours later, respectively. This series of events is part of a pattern in the new era of Black Lives Matter protests. Journalists and peaceful protesters are routinely locked up during demonstrations, despite engaging in First Amendment-protected activities. Often, orders to disburse or curfews...

Google just made one of Big Tech’s most ambitious environmental commitments: it will work to run its operations purely on renewable energy by 2030. It also announced that as of today, it has purchased enough carbon offsets to essentially cancel out all the planet-heating carbon dioxide emissions the company has released since it was founded in 1998. Google has been carbon neutral each year since 2007, which means that it offsets the emissions it generates from burning fossil fuels by investing in renewable energy projects or other initiatives that draw carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and into storage. But relying on offsets doesn’t actually wean the company off fossil fuels. Google released 4.9 million metric tons of greenhouse...
