The Bengals:

Baker Mayfield put in a statement performance today as the Cleveland Browns bested the Cincinnati Bengals in the Ohio Derby. Joe Burrow fought hard in the fourth quarter but had to make do with a second consecutive defeat, a career-first for the young Bengals quarterback. However, it was all about Baker Mayfield and his superstar running backs, Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb, tonight. The former Oklahoma Sooners star completed 16 of his 23 attempted passes. He threw for 239 yards and had two passing TDs against one interception. This was a significantly better performance than their opening weekend 6-38 hammering against the Baltimore Ravens. Joe Burrow will succeed for the Cincinnati Bengals no matter what. We’ve seen enough out of Joe Burrow to know he will save the Cincinnati Bengals franchise. Despite being 0-2 in his first two career NFL starts, the Bengals made the correct decision by taking the 2019 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback out of LSU with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. In the last two weeks, The Geauxt has given this typical AFC North bottom-feeder hope to pull off early-season upsets. He possesses poise and confidence rarely seen by a rookie. Once the Bengals are on the clock in the 2021 NFL Draft, they will do what is necessary to get Oregon Ducks offensive tackle Penei Sewell to...

Joe Burrow did not get the desired collective result at the end of his NFL debut. However, he did manage to showcase his skills in the narrow 13-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers last Sunday. Burrow completed 23 of his 36 attempted passes and threw for 193 yards against one interception. He almost carried the Bengals to a fourth-quarter comeback, but fell short in the dying stages of the game. The Iowa-born athlete seems focused on making a mark in the league this year. But he refuses to get carried away ahead of the upcoming Week Two clash against the Cleveland Browns. A player like Joe Burrow is a perfect example of why the NFL has a wage scale for rookie contracts. The new Bengals quarterback can only be paid a certain amount on his first NFL deal, which is fortunate for Cincinnati considering the LSU product is coming off arguably the most impressive college football season ever played by a quarterback. Considering the amount of money veteran quarterbacks are getting on new contracts in 2020, Burrow, even as an unproven rookie, would have earned massive dollars on his rookie contract if not for the salary limitations. Sam Bradford back in 2010 was the last rookie QB to benefit from the lack of these restrictions, which were implemented in the 2011 collective bargaining agreement. MORE: Can...

There is not enough talent to merit starting any fantasy football personnel in Week 2’s Thursday Night Football (TNF) game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns. After whetting our appetite for football by starting the season last Thursday night with the Houston Texans and the NFL champion Kansas City Chiefs, the league schedule makers follow up with two pro football teams with a combined record of 28-67-1 over the last three seasons. Maybe the location – FirstEnergy Stadium – will give us a hint on the outcome of Thursday night’s game.  Neither team’s first games of 2020 provided insights on how good Cincinnati or Cleveland will be this season.  The two teams combined for 19 points and surrendered 46...

Sorry, folks — Pro Picks probably will be watching Islanders-Lightning instead. At least this matchup is in Week 2, before Cincinnati and Cleveland are deeply dredging the bottom of the standings. By Michael Hurley, CBS Boston BOSTON (CBS) — The NFL has many different strategies when it comes to pursuing “justice” among its many teams and players. Sometimes, the league makes stuff up, lies about it, and then sticks to the original made-up case anyway, which is what took place in “DeflateGate.” Other times, the league ignores a lack of evidence and a recommendation from its own lead investigator and chooses to issue punishment anyway, which is what happened with Ezekiel Elliott. Still other times, the league tries to sweep a story under a rug in hopes that nobody finds out, which is what happened with Josh Brown. Now, in the case of the Patriots having a staffer film a football field...
