The Xbox Series S and the PS5 digital edition are two tough choices for consumers. Either, they can buy the very economic Xbox Series S, or they can buy the PS5 digital edition at a higher price. The Xbox Series S is also a digital-only console with weaker specifications than the Series X but the PS5 digital edition is as powerful as the PS5. With such consoles up against each other, both Microsoft and Sony need to step up their marketing strategies. ALSO READ – Record-breaking demand of the Xbox consoles in other regions. Xbox Series S’s price reduction happens for a special reason Between the two consoles, the PS5 digital edition takes away the specifications on its behalf, and...
Microsoft is all ready to launch the two consoles Xbox Series X/S. Both will be released simultaneously across 37 existing Xbox markets on 7th November 2020. Microsoft enters the next-generation with these two consoles.  (Image Courtesy – Xbox.com) In their blog, Microsoft mentions, “The Xbox Velocity Architecture is at the core of our next generation consoles. At the heart of the Xbox Velocity Architecture is our custom NVME SSD to store and play all your games at their best.” Microsoft gives a sneak peek behind their Xbox...
Last week, Amazon informed customers who had pre-ordered the PS5 that they might not actually get their consoles on launch day, and now, Amazon has started to tell people that pre-ordered the Xbox Series X that they might not get that console right when it’s out, either, according to reports shared on Twitter Friday evening. “We’re contacting you about your order of Xbox Series X to let you know in advance that you may not receive this item on the day it is released due to high demand,” Amazon’s notice reportedly reads. Amazon has sent an email giving advance warning that Xbox Series X preorders may not arrive on launch day due to high demand The email is...

Seemingly out of nowhere, Microsoft has decided to change the price of the Xbox Series S in Japan. The next-gen console was originally going to retail for 32,980 yen (roughly $313), but that’s now been revised down to 29,980 yen (roughly $284). It’s a surprising move given that pre-orders for the console are scheduled to go live tomorrow. Microsoft didn’t give a reason for the last-minute change. As our colleagues at News Brig Japan noted, though, the standard Nintendo Switch also costs 29,980 yen. Price matching could make it easier for Microsoft to tempt people who might have been considering Nintendo’s portable-console hybrid this winter. Microsoft may have revealed the Xbox Series S and X but there is a lot more to the story than we know. Designing next-gen consoles that users will continue to enjoy for many years is not an easy task. Add to that the pressure that comes from the competitors racing alongside and we can begin to imagine just how difficult it is. Apart from the hardware specifications and capabilities of the Series X and S, the design of the consoles has attracted a lot of attention. Microsoft shared their inspiration for the design of the next-gen consoles in a blog post today. Read on to find out how the team put together Series S and X, keeping their faithful fanbase...
Microsoft’s first 1TB expandable storage drive for the Xbox Series X / S will be priced at $219.99. Best Buy has started taking preorders for the accessory, revealing a final price that had leaked recently. These expandable storage cards slot into the rear of both the Xbox Series X / S to match the internal SSD speed and provide 1TB of extra storage. Microsoft’s expandable storage solution is proprietary, and only Seagate has been announced as a manufacturer so far. Microsoft tells me more suppliers and additional sizes will be available in the future, but the $219.99 price will still surprise many potential next-gen Xbox owners. The Xbox Series X ships with 1TB of SSD storage, and the Xbox Series...
At this price (and with no other sizes or manufacturers available so far) adding storage to the cheaper console costs two-thirds of the system’s price. If you’d like to have some extra space to install those launch-day games, then you can pre-order the 1TB Game Drive for Xbox Series X and Series S right now and have it ship on November 10th.
If you tried and failed to snag an Xbox Series X or S (with the help of our preorder guide), you’ve got another chance to pick one up on launch day. In a tweet yesterday, Microsoft said it was “humbled” by the demand for its next-generation consoles, and that it expects more units to arrive on November 10th. To be safe, if you’re on the lookout, you should sign up for stock alerts from your preferred retailers. There’s always a chance more units will arrive earlier. And even though the pre-order frenzy disappointed many Xbox fans, at least it seemed to be more well organized than the PlayStation 5 fiasco. We are humbled by the record-breaking demand for Xbox Series...
Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Series S preorders went live on Tuesday, capping a rough week of product rollouts that included similarly messy situations for preordering Sony’s PlayStation 5 and buying Nvidia’s RTX 3080 graphics card. The next two months are, without a doubt, the most pivotal hardware launch season the video game industry has seen in almost a decade. But for some reason, the biggest names in interactive entertainment can’t seem to solve the simple task of giving consumers an easy and straightforward way to exchange their money for a product. Why, in the year 2020, are companies as large, experienced, and well-funded as Microsoft, Sony, and Nvidia still failing at preorders? It’s an especially puzzling question when companies...
The next generation of PlayStation is nearly here. After more than a year of drip-feeding information about the PlayStation 5, Sony has finally laid out the price, release date, and some of the games we can expect to play at launch. With the PS5, it seems like Sony is sticking with the approach that made the PlayStation 4 so successful: sell consoles that can play first-party games from Sony’s storied franchises, and supplement that lineup with great third-party titles, too. You should expect to see better graphics in your games, and the PS5 will also support high refresh rates, which should make games feel smoother (if you have a display that supports those refresh rates). Plus, the PS5’s custom...
MICROSOFT has two new consoles coming out, and some gamers still aren't sure which to splash their cash on. The Xbox Series X and Series S are now just months away from release – we sum up the key differences between them below. 4The Xbox Series X (left) and Series S (right) are out in November What are the Xbox Series X and Series S? The Xbox Series X and Series S are the latest consoles from Microsoft. They're the follow ups to the Xbox One X and Xbox One S respectively. The Series X is all about power and performance, and is said to be so fast that it virtually eliminates loading times. The Series S is a fair...
As a pillar of the gaming community, Dr DisRespect’s opinions are hugely influential. Players tend to follow what their idols say, and Doc usually has a lot to say about gaming. However, when he was asked about next generational consoles, Dr DisRespect was pretty quick with his response. (Image Courtesy – Dr DisRespect YouTube) Primarily, Doc is known for his skills on a PC. That doesn’t mean that he cannot play with a controller, as he has shown time and time again. With the console war warming up, Doc had to have a say on the topic, and he made no qualms about which console he preferred.   Dr DisRespect reveals his next-generational console of choice According to Dr...
If you are planning to design your very own Xbox controller ahead of the Xbox Series X and S launch on November 10th, you might want to act fast. Microsoft is temporarily shutting down its Xbox Design Lab on October 14th. Announced back in 2016, Xbox Design Lab brings a lot of flexibility and personal flair to the Xbox One controller. For $80, you have access to over 40 different color options for the various parts of the controller, adding up to over a million different combinations in total. A couple years ago, I designed one for a close friend and was amazed how much customization I could do; it didn’t feel like I was just creating another...
Today, Microsoft launched pre-orders for its upcoming next generation console, the Xbox One X. Sorry, I meant the Xbox Series X. Can you blame me? There’s only one word of difference between the two names, and it’s the one in the middle. There are also three X’s. I might not be the only one who gets them confused, though. (Microsoft itself has, but I digress.) Despite today being pre-order day for the Series X (reminder: the new one), the One X (the old one) had a banner day on Amazon as well, at one point up 747 percent on Amazon’s “Movers & Shakers” sales charts. Note that Amazon’s charts only cover the past hour: it wasn’t #4 all day....
The initial wave of preorders for the Xbox Series X and S have sold out at all major retailers. Of course, there’s still a chance that you’ll find one in stock if you click through one of the many links on our preorder guide, but this morning’s rush of orders seems to have scooped most of the consoles up. Though, if you were trying to order a console earlier today, there was a decent chance that you were actually able to get that done. So Microsoft’s plan for giving retailers and people plenty of time to prepare for preorders to start seems to have worked, at least up against last week’s surprisingly disastrous Sony PS5 preorder process, which kicked off...
Xbox Series X and S pre-orders opened on Tuesday morning, and while some folks struggled to complete their transactions, other fans might have found the process easy. Maybe too easy. As noted by Andrew Alerts on Twitter, orders for the Xbox One X — that is, the current generation of Microsoft gaming hardware — have increased today. Now, some of these folks undoubtedly wanted exactly what they got; maybe they decided the hassle of spending hundreds of dollars on a next-gen console wasn’t worth it. But some others appear to have made a mistake. On social media, some poor Xbox fans have started sharing stories of accidentally ordering the Xbox One, thinking that they had pre-ordered the Xbox Series X...
New York (CNN Business)It's Microsoft's turn to feed the Xbox Series X shopping frenzy, after retailers opened up Sony's PlayStation 5 preorders last week. Demand for the video game systems is off-the-charts, but ordering either console has been a difficult experience for many gamers. The next-gen video game console Xbox Series X is available for pre-order on Tuesday, alongside the cheaper and smaller Xbox Series S. Both will be released on November 10. The Series X costs $499, while the Series S, which is less powerful in terms of technical specifications, costs $299. Xbox describes the Series S in an email as "smaller than a cereal box."Retailers including Amazon, Target, Best Buy, GameStop and Walmart opened up pre-orders Tuesday morning.Immediately after...
Microsoft’s new Xbox consoles sold out across all major American retailers within minutes of preorders going live Tuesday morning. Demand for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S systems crashed the preorder pages of Amazon, Walmart, GameStop and Target shortly after being made available. It even took down Microsoft’s Xbox ordering website. Gamers hoping to get their hands on one of the new Xbox consoles were met with an error screen on Amazon, while Walmart’s and GameStop’s pages didn’t even load due to the traffic. Repeated attempts by The Post to reserve a unit at Target saw this reporter reach the checkout page, only to have the site refresh to an empty cart. A Twitter search for the...
When retailers started pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 earlier than Sony said they would, it was pandemonium for customers trying to secure the hardware. The folks at Microsoft must have seen this as an easy dig, because the official Xbox account went on to post something about how they would let customers know the exact time of pre-orders, so they shouldn’t “worry.” Lo and behold, the time for Xbox Series X has arrived, and … it’s still a mess. Likely, knowing the specific time for pre-orders actually didn’t help much. GameStop implemented a “queue” that asked customers to stay in line and not refresh the page (this seems to have been a clever ruse), except after thirty minutes of waiting,...
The Xbox Series S and Series X consoles will both be available starting on November 10th, and you can ensure you’ll have one on launch day by placing a preorder today, starting at 11AM ET / 8AM PT. The Xbox Series S, a smaller, less-powerful alternative to the Series X with no disc drive and 512GB of SSD storage, costs $299.99. The Xbox Series X is Microsoft’s much bigger flagship next-gen console, featuring a more powerful GPU than the Series S, double the storage to a 1TB SSD, and a 4K Blu-ray disc drive. It’s $499.99. Microsoft’s new $59.99 Bluetooth wireless controller that features a USB-C charging port and a new Share button for capturing screens and clips can be...
The Xbox Series S has already won hearts as an affordable next-gen gaming option. Although it won’t be as powerful as the Series X, the console is as impressive as it can get. Recently, Digital Foundry talked at length to the Codemasters Technical Director for the Cheshire Studio, David Springate, about developing the upcoming game Dirt 5 for all the current consoles, including the Series S. Further reading: Valorant Will End up Destroying CS: GO In Terms of Numbers, Says Owner of G2 Esports “What you saw running on (Xbox) Series S was running on Series S”: Technical Director for the Cheshire Studio Fans are already aware of the power this small console packs. The next generation of Xbox is arriving in time for the 2020 holiday season. Microsoft is releasing two models: the flagship, more powerful Xbox Series X and a smaller, cheaper Xbox Series S. Microsoft has revealed plenty of details about its new consoles, including the design, specs, and pricing. According to the company, the Xbox Series X is more than twice as powerful as the Xbox One X, with up to 8K resolution, 120 fps frame rates, and real-time ray tracing. The Xbox Series S is a less powerful model without a disc drive, which Microsoft says is the smallest Xbox ever. Pre-orders for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will be available starting at 8 a.m. PDT...

PRE-ORDERS for the new Xbox console went live in the UK this morning, sending gamers into a frantic race to get hold of one of Microsoft's coveted machines. The £449 Xbox Series X won't hit shelves until November, but that didn't stop fans from trying to reserve one early, with Amazon and other major retailers reported to have sold out within minutes. 3Pre-orders for the Xbox Series X went live in the UK this morning Some online stores appear to still have the console in stock, though waiting times are topping 60 minutes on most websites. On Tuesday morning Microsoft will start taking pre-orders for its next-generation console family, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. While the consoles will work with existing Xbox One gamepads, if you want a second Xbox Wireless Controller to maintain the subtle tweaks, low latency connection and dedicated Share button shown off in March, it will cost $60. That’s the same price as its predecessor, and, as Microsoft had confirmed previously, still means it uses AA batteries right out of the box. If you’d prefer a play-and-charge solution, Microsoft is selling a rechargeable battery pack and USB-C cable combo for $25, all set for delivery on November 10th along with the new consoles. Sony’s DualSense PS5 gamepad, by comparison,...
After months of waiting, we finally know when the Xbox Series X, Series S and PlayStation 5 will launch, and some games that will be available on day one. But the new hardware requires some investment: the Xbox Series X / S will cost $499 and $299, while the PS5 and its discless Digital Edition will cost $499 and $399. And if you want to take the plunge, you’ll also need to be able to actually find a console, which hasn’t been easy with PS5 preorders so far. (Fingers crossed that the Xbox Series X / S preorders go more smoothly.) Are Microsoft and Sony offering enough to convince you to buy into the next generation at launch? Our...
With less than 24-hours before Microsoft starts taking Xbox Series X and Series S pre-orders, the redesigned Microsoft Store on Xbox is now available to all users — though not without some launch day issues. The product of what the company says is years of development, the updated marketplace brings with it a couple of notable enhancements to the experience of buying content on an Xbox. One of those is enhanced speed, with Microsoft saying the new interface loads in under two seconds in most instances. The company has also tweaked the storefront to make it easier to see what games your friends are playing, as well as to find out what’s on sale at any given moment. Overall navigation...

Microsoft will also offer a PC controller bundle that includes the Xbox Wireless Controller in Carbon Black and either the Wireless Adapter for Windows 10...

It will be released for the entire world just a week after. On the other hand, the new Xbox range will begin at $299 and will be launched on November 10th. This has officially flagged off the start of the console war. Both consoles differ from each other in terms of style and even hardware. The prices are yet another factor. At face value, it is easier to assume that Microsoft might be able to create a niche with the Xbox Series S with its aggressive pricing,...

Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox Series S and X’s price and launch date were announced last week. Fans were extremely happy with the $299 price for the Series S considering it still has next-gen capabilities. Even Sony’s announcements yesterday for the PS5 wouldn’t have bothered Microsoft that much. To add to all the good news, Xbox exec Jason Ronald spoke about something that will delight fans even more. Jason spoke to IGN recently where he revealed that the Series S game sizes would be smaller compared to Series X. He said, “With a performance target of 1440p at 60 fps, our expectation is that developers will not ship their highest level mipmaps to Xbox Series S, which will reduce the size of...

Microsoft will open pre-orders for its next-generation consoles on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 8 a.m. PDT/11 a.m. EDT. Those interested in buying the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles can order from Amazon, Target, Best Buy, Costco, Sam’s Club, GameStop, Newegg, Walmart, and Army and Airforce Exchange Service. On Wednesday, Microsoft threw a little shade at its competitor, Sony, which had a chaotic pre-order frenzy. “Don’t worry — we’ll let you know the exact time pre-orders start for you soon,” Microsoft tweeted. Shortly after timing and pricing for the new PlayStation consoles was announced on Wednesday, pre-orders started surprise-opening at certain retailers, despite official word saying it’d begin Thursday. Websites crashed, and consoles quickly sold out. Microsoft appears...
The PlayStation 5 will be Sony’s largest console ever, according to official system specifications released on Thursday, confirming speculation from fans that the next-gen PlayStation will be just absolutely massive. Here are the official size dimensions of the standard PlayStation 5 and the disc-less Digital Edition of the console, as revealed via the PlayStation Blog: PlayStation 5 Width: 15.35 inches (390 mm) Depth: 10.23 inches (260 mm) Height: 4.1 inches (104 mm) PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Width: 15.35 inches (390 mm) Depth: 10.23 inches (260 mm) Height: 3.6 inches (92 mm) Sony notes that those dimensions do not add in the size of the included base, which will give the PS5 a larger footprint when standing...
At $400, the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition offers everything the regular PlayStation 5 does, except the disc drive. With AAA games looking likely to cost around $70, the price you pay for this one is locking yourself into the often-more-expensive digital versions of games you want for an entire generation. At $500, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X go toe to toe. The Xbox looks to be more powerful, and also has an additional 175GB of listed storage, although neither manufacturer has confirmed how much space will be available for game installs on their console yet. On the other hand, the PS5 seems to have the stronger set of exclusive titles right now. If you have any doubts about...
Sony’s PlayStation 5 finally has a release date and price tag. The next-generation video game console will hit stores Nov. 12 — two days after the Xbox Series X’s release — and will retail for $499. The all-digital edition of the gaming system, which doesn’t feature a disk drive and can only play downloaded software, will retail for $399. The PlayStation 5 is the most hotly-anticipated upcoming gaming console, and will take on Microsoft’s new Xbox in the all-important holiday sales season. Sony reportedly was forced to lower its pricing after Microsoft earlier this month announced that the Xbox Series X would retail for $499, while the all-digital Xbox Series S would sell for just $299. The Japanese gaming...

So yes, you can technically play next-gen games for $299. Or $399, if you prefer the PS5 ecosystem. But realistically, you can’t. The digital version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, for example, currently demands 185GB on a PS4 or Xbox One. The much-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077, meanwhile, is expected to be an 80GB download. That’s already more than 250GB. There will be smaller games, of course, and some titles, like Rare’s Sea of Thieves, have been cleverly shrunk post-release. Sony Mark Cerny, the lead architect on the PS4, has also suggested that game sizes could get smaller on the PS5. On a traditional HDD, commonly-requested game elements — a car or mailbox that appears on every road, for instance —...

Microsoft revealed its Xbox Series S console last week, aiming to offer more budget-friendly next-gen gaming for $299. The console is specifically targeted at 1440p resolution rather than 4K, leading to some lingering questions and confusion around just how well it will play next-gen games. There are concerns around the GPU performance, memory, and whether the Series S could hold back next-gen gaming. I got a chance to speak with Jason Ronald, Microsoft’s director of Xbox program management, to dig into what’s really going on with the Xbox Series S. The biggest difference between the larger Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S, apart from the size and design, is the GPU inside. The Xbox Series S has 4...
GAMERS across the globe were left high and dry this morning after pre-orders for the new PlayStation console sold out within minutes. The PlayStation 5 isn't out until November but a handful of stores opened up orders on Thursday, sparking a furious scramble for the machine online. 6The PlayStation 5 is out in November but pre-orders opened on ThursdayCredit: Sony/the sun PS5 listings have already begun to pop up on sites like eBay for as much as £250 above the asking price. Crestfallen PlayStation fans took to social media to vent their frustrations at missing out. "So did anyone manage to pre order a PS5? Ryan also defended the $399 price for the digital edition that’s $100 higher than Microsoft’s $299 Xbox Series S. “We want to future proof them so that they know the console they buy will be relevant in several years time,” he told the WaPo. In response to a question about the Xbox One Series S, he also told Yahoo Japan (translated) that “lowering specs in order to reduce the price of a device doesn’t have a happy history. We’ve had that experience and so have other companies.” Contrary to an earlier Bloomberg report, Sony said that it won’t have any supply issues when the console goes on sale on November 12th in the US, Japan and other launch regions, and...

Today’s PlayStation 5 Showcase event announced the price for the next-gen PS5 console. The disc + digital PS5 will cost $499 and the Digital-only version is priced at $399. This is definitely great news for PS5 fans and could spell trouble for the folks over at Microsoft. Over the past couple of days, multiple rumors suggested that the PlayStation 5 would be priced lower than the Xbox Series X. A Bloomberg analyst had suggested it would be $399 for the digital-only and $449 for the disc+digital version of the PS5. Looks like the prediction was absolutely spot on/ not very far from the actual price. This definitely changes a lot of things in the ‘console war’. This pricing definitely puts...
Sony has finally announced the price for PlayStation 5, and it was perhaps the best bit of a brilliant showcase. With the PS5 disk edition priced at $499 and the digital edition priced at $399, Sony may well have already won the war of next-gen consoles. Microsoft had revealed the price for Xbox Series X and Series S a week ago to be $499 and $299, respectively. The real game-changer is possibly the price of the digital version of PS5. Although the Xbox Series S is priced at a lowly $299, it is a far inferior machine compared to the Series X and PS5. It is likely gamers wouldn’t mind shelling out an extra $100 to get their hands...
Sony revealed the price and release date for the PlayStation 5 on Wednesday, and the company’s most loyal customers used it as an opportunity to mock the upcoming Xbox Series X on social media. This next-gen console war seems to be just as ridiculous as the last one between Sony and Microsoft. The PlayStation 5 has two editions, one with a disc reader and one that is digital-only, meaning it only allows games to be downloaded rather than purchased in physical form. The regular version will cost $499.99 at launch, and the digital version will cost $399.99. Both editions will be available in stores on Nov. 12 in the U.S. Those figures are very similar to what Microsoft is putting forward...

Check out the table below for all the specs we know to date — we still don’t have the exact size dimensions or weight of either PlayStation model, though we’ll be sure to update this post once that info is revealed. Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, an upgraded port of the most recent entry in Capcom’s long-running hack-and-slash action franchise, is on its way to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the publisher announced Wednesday. Vergil, Dante’s brother, will be a playable character in the Special Edition. Owners of Devil May Cry 5’s PlayStation 4, Windows PC, or Xbox One versions — which debuted in March 2019 — will be able to get Vergil as a paid add-on. Other additions for this re-release include Turbo Mode — the ability to play at 1.2x speed — and Legendary Dark Knight difficulty. And there’s a key visual enhancement, too: real-time ray tracing, Capcom said in a PlayStation Blog post. Players will have...

Sony is hosting another virtual showcase for its upcoming PlayStation 5 console. It’s airing later today, and we expect to hear the last precious drips of info: a release date and prices for both configurations of the PS5 (the discless version and the model that has the Blu-ray drive). It could have been that Sony planned September 16th as its big news day all along, but it seems to be in response to Microsoft, which basically divulged every last detail about its Xbox Series S / X consoles, including their price, release date, and specs, last week following a leak. Can Sony beat Microsoft’s $299 price point for the Xbox Series S, or match the Xbox Series X at...

Backward compatibility is one of the major pillars of Microsoft’s pitch for its next-generation consoles: The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, the company says, will launch with the ability to play “thousands of Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Original Xbox games.” But there’s a wide gulf between the capabilities of the two models — “the most powerful Xbox ever” and “the smallest Xbox ever,” respectively — which means that they will handle backward compatibility differently. Microsoft unveiled the Xbox Series S last week, and said that it will debut alongside the bigger, stronger Series X on Nov. 10 at a far more affordable price point of $299 instead of $499. One major difference between what the two models...
The newest Overcooked game hits PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X later this year. In addition to remastered levels from the first two games and some new ones, Overcooked: All You Can Eat will also offer expanded accessibility options and a brand-new assist mode. To quote Pixar’s Ratatouille, “Anyone can cook!” and now Overcooked: All You Can Eat will make that dream possible for more players. The new assist mode will allow players to increase level times, boost scores for meals, lengthen recipe times, and turn off the food expiration feature. Additionally, the user interface will be able to be tweaked and scaled, with dyslexia-friendly text options available and color-blind friendly chef indicators. You can see those new features...
FEARS of a shortage of the new PlayStation console have been stoked after a report claimed Sony is making millions fewer of the machines than expected. Only they weren’t really knock offs, they were the new OnePlus Buds. Which, yes, kind of look like knock-off AirPods. The next-generation of Xbox gaming is a little more complicated than what we’re used to. This past week, Microsoft announced it’s releasing not one but two new consoles: the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S. Not only that, but Microsoft’s initial crop of first-party games will also be playable on its last generation Xbox, the Xbox One, as well as Windows PCs. And that’s before we get into Microsoft’s game streaming service, xCloud, which could mean you won’t need any Xbox hardware at all to play many of the latest games. Each new generation tends to deliver big changes for console gaming, and Microsoft’s successors to the Xbox One are no different. Expect games to look better (thanks...

Microsoft’s new Xbox Series S should offer impressive next-gen performance for its $299 price, but where does that leave the Xbox One X? According to Microsoft, the 4K-targeting Xbox from 2017 will still hold some advantages over the Series S — at least when it comes to running Xbox One X-enhanced current-gen games. “Xbox Series S was designed to be the most affordable next-generation console and play next-generation games at 1440p at 60fps,” Microsoft says in a statement to Gamesradar. “To deliver the highest quality backwards compatible experience consistent with the developer’s original intent, the Xbox Series S runs the Xbox One S version of backward compatible games while applying improved texture filtering, higher and more consistent frame rates, faster...
Gearbox is determined to keep Borderlands 3 relevant as next-generation consoles arrive, and it’s not just focusing on visual touch-ups. The developer used its PAX Online presentation to reveal (via Windows Central) that Borderlands 3 will come to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with both 4K, 60 frames per second visuals as well as support for up to four players in a local split-screen mode. That’s not the most useful feature in a socially distant 2020, but it’ll be helpful if there’s more than one Borderlands fan in your household. Current-generation players will get two-player vertical split-screen, Gearbox said. The company also teased cross-platform play coming in 2021, although it didn’t say which systems would be included.
Ubisoft Microsoft is bringing out the big guns come November 10, 2020. Borderlands 3 is the latest game to adopt an encouraging trend — giving gamers a next-gen upgrade without making them pay for it — and in this case, it’s one that’ll be extremely welcome to console gamers who have 4K TV sets. The image above (and embedded in the tweet below) has all the details, but just in case you can’t make out the fine print the primary news is this: on PS5 and Xbox Series X, the game will now run at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, both higher and smoother than any console can run Borderlands 3 today. Last year, Digital Foundry found that even the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X only managed to...

Sony is holding a special PlayStation 5 event next week. The company will broadcast a 40-minute “digital showcase” on Wednesday, September 16th that will include updates from first-party Sony game studios and third-party partners. Sony is pitching the event as “one more look at some of the great games coming to PS5 at launch (and beyond!)” before the console launches. It’s also likely we’ll get a release date and price for the PlayStation 5. Microsoft was originally planning to announce its Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X launch plans and pricing next week, before the $299 price of the Series S leaked. Sony opened up pre-registration for PS5 preorders last month, but the company still hasn’t shared a date...
